Which Protection Does Your PV Cabinet Need? Acrel ALP220-EF

When selecting protection for a PV grid-connection cabinet, which functions does the project actually need?

Starting with a long list of general feeder protection functions can make that decision harder. The single-line diagram is a better starting point. What protection is already provided by the inverter and existing devices? What does the cabinet still need? Which breaker should open when a fault occurs?

For PV grid-connection cabinet projects in Malaysia, Acrel offers ALP220-EF for assessment against the specified protection duties and the installed breaker arrangement.

Selecting the model is only part of the work. The sensing circuit, auxiliary supply, trip output and breaker trip circuit need to be checked together. The protection device detects the fault and issues the operating signal; the breaker interrupts the current. The complete trip path therefore matters as much as the device selection.

Protection settings also need coordination with upstream and downstream devices to avoid unnecessary shutdowns while meeting the required fault-clearing duties. Other grid-connection protection requirements should be checked across the complete system.

Planning a new PV cabinet or reviewing an existing design? Send Acrel your single-line diagram, protection requirements and breaker model. We can help assess the ALP220-EF configuration and the supporting components needed for your cabinet.
