A residential community in Saudi Arabia needed centralised metering of its household circuits: every villa or apartment feeder metered, readings collected without a person walking the site with a clipboard, and the data available to the property office in real time.
The constraint that shaped the design was communication. Running a control cable back to a single collection point across a low-rise community costs more than the meters, and the trenching is disruptive after handover. The project therefore uses 4G wireless backhaul: each collection point uploads over the cellular network, and no site-wide cable bus is required.
Per-household three-phase energy metering, collected by 4G, with no manual reading.
Equipment and how it fits together
The customer selected the ADL400 three-phase DIN-rail energy meter on each monitored household circuit, paired with an AWT100-4G wireless gateway at the collection point. The meter reports over RS485 / Modbus-RTU, the gateway publishes the same registers over 4G, and the Acrel IoT power cloud platform presents consumption per household, per building and for the community as a whole.
- Real-time monitoring of voltage, current, power and energy per circuit, so an abnormal household load is visible the day it appears.
- Remote reading replaces the manual walk, and the time-stamped kWh register is what a charge to the resident is based on.
- Switchable relay control is available on the prepaid variants of the ADL series where the operator wants to disconnect on unpaid accounts.
- Visual management on one interface: consumption by region, by building and by household, with reports for the period the operator bills on.
