The reconstruction of the Arab Bank premises needed the energy use of the separate outgoing circuits collected in one place, floor by floor, without running a new control cable between the distribution boards. The ground floor, the first-floor office area and the kitchen were the three zones that had to be visible at the same time.
Two constraints set the design. The metering points sit in boards that were already wired, and the customer did not want manual meter reading to continue. That pointed to a DIN-rail multi-circuit meter on the existing bus and a wireless gateway on the RS485 side.
ADF400L three-phase DIN-rail multi-loop energy meters measure the circuits. An AWT100 WiFi gateway polls each meter over RS485 on Modbus-RTU and uploads to the Acrel IoT platform, where consumption is shown per circuit and per floor.
What the metering board does
- One main module carries the display, the keypad and the RS485 to the gateway; the measurement modules behind it add circuits without adding a second instrument to the DIN rail.
- Circuits are mixed on the same board: direct single-phase and three-phase loads next to transformer-fed circuits. Three single-phase circuits count as one three-phase circuit against the 36-circuit limit.
- Direct modules cover 0.1-0.5(80) A loads. Transformer modules cover 0.01-0.05(6) A secondary inputs, so the existing current transformers stay in place.
- Class C energy accuracy with ±0.2% measurement error, so the same data serves allocation between floors and trend monitoring.
Why the uplink is wireless
The floor-to-floor run was the expensive part of the job. RS485 stays inside each distribution board and the gateway carries the data over the site WiFi, so the installation added no cable tray and no wall chasing.
What the customer got
Readings arrive per circuit rather than as one site total, so each floor and each outgoing feeder is visible on its own; manual meter reading was dropped. Because the buses are standard Modbus-RTU, more boards can be added later without changing the metering principle.
For a quotation on a project like this: the circuit list with ratings, how many circuits already have current transformers, the distance between boards, and whether the site allows WiFi on the metering VLAN.
