A factory adding rooftop PV may have room for the inverter upstairs but no convenient communication route to the meter downstairs. This proposal considers an occupied Shah Alam factory where the approved PV design requires export limitation. The installation needs a dependable meter connection while keeping cable work through production areas manageable. An AWT100-AP/WFH pair is an option where the inverter supplier accepts a serial bridge.
The customer challenge
A long RS485 run means finding access through an existing building and arranging work around production. Wireless could remove part of that route, but the EPC also needs to know whether the inverter will receive usable readings on time. Discovering an incompatible connection during commissioning would leave both the cable route and the control problem unresolved.
The Acrel solution
Place one AWT100-AP/WFH beside the approved meter and its paired unit near the inverter interface, using AP and STA roles. Short RS485 connections and local power remain at both ends. The pair transfers serial messages across the wireless section. The meter measures grid exchange, while the inverter or its approved controller regulates generation.
For this proposal, compatibility is settled before equipment is ordered. The EPC provides the inverter and meter models; the selected serial settings, polling response and communication-loss behaviour are then checked against the inverter requirements. Commissioning includes changing the load and interrupting the link, so acceptance covers the control response as well as successful meter reads.
Expected benefits for the retrofit
Where approved and proven on site, the wireless section can reduce the length of new communication cable passing through occupied production space. The EPC also gets a defined acceptance scope: fresh meter readings, the required inverter response and recovery after an interruption. These are the practical deliverables against which the installation should be judged.
The final choice depends on the approved interface, radio survey and local installation conditions. A wired-only inverter requirement still calls for a wired route.
