From Energy Data to EE&C Reporting Support with Acrel IoT EMS


You have all the electricity bills. Why is there still missing data when it is time to prepare an EE&C report?

For many factories and commercial buildings, the monthly total is easy to find. The harder questions come next. How much went to cooling and how much to production? Why was the load still high after shutdown? Did consumption fall because efficiency improved, or because operating hours were shorter?

Those answers start with measurements on site.

For a factory in Malaysia, the main incomer and major load circuits are practical places to begin. APM521 can be installed in the switchboard at an LV main incomer or important feeder. With suitable CTs, it measures energy, power and other electrical parameters, helping the team understand overall load changes.

To see where that electricity goes, the next step is submetering. The DIN-rail-mounted ADL400 can measure circuits serving production areas, HVAC or lighting. Direct-connected or CT-operated versions are selected to suit the current and installation conditions.

For retrofit projects with dispersed measurement points or difficult communication cable routes, ADW300A offers wireless communication configurations that can be assessed against the site’s network conditions.

The readings also need to be accessible. APM521 and ADL400 can communicate through RS485 Modbus RTU to a compatible gateway, which uploads the data to Acrel IoT EMS. ADW300A connects according to its selected communication configuration. The platform brings the connected measurement points together for historical trends, consumption statistics and report exports.

Suppose a factory stops production for the weekend, but electricity use barely drops. Main-incomer data reveals the problem. Separate readings for compressors, cooling and production areas help the team decide where to investigate first. After operating schedules are adjusted, consumption can be compared alongside production output and running hours to assess the improvement.

Keeping these records throughout the year makes report preparation less dependent on last-minute data collection. For applicable Malaysian energy consumers, the Registered Energy Manager (REM) still needs to verify and compile the required information using utility bills, other energy records and production and management documentation.
